Hello fellow Marlin 795 owner! The stock 795 has a design flaw around the rear action screw. The screw does not go through the stock but uses the reciever and the plastic trigger guard to clamp onto the stock (like a C-clamp). If you happen to apply even the slightest amount of torque to the screw you will bend and eventually break the trigger guard (I did and I've read it's quite common). For comparison, check out the Savage 62. I picked up one at a Walmart in Sturgis, MI for $99+tax. Basically the same as a Ruger 10/22 or 795. Ten round mag, semi-auto, 22LR, blued metal but synthetic stock (not as pretty as the 795).
