IMO the rail is less useful on the compact 92s because it takes what is a relatively large "compact" and gives it the footprint of a full sized pistol when you mount accessories. It is rather large, but you can get flush fitting 18 round magazines on the cheap and 9mm get's a nice boost out of the 5 inch barrel.
