Taste: There is lots of peat upfront with burning wood (cedar or pine), and that is followed by ash and more sweetness—it is quite easy drinking.

This is a Islay single malt bottled for Costco's Kirkland brand by Alexander Murray. The label only tells us that it's matured in oak casks and 100 proof. It doesn't have an age, mention chill filtration, or color. My assumption going in is this is a young Caol Ila based on which Islay distilleries usually provide a lot of casks for IBs.

Given the Kirkland Islay is 50% abv, it's probably a better buy than Laphroaig 10 even without the age statement. I would have bought another bottle if the price were <$40 before tax but I passed at this price.
