A couple things that'll wake up the 800 I've done are to debaffle the stock pipes, and Grampsized the air filter housing, see link below. Great tips on here. Shaft drive is supposed to be low maintenence and reliable. There is oil in there that needs to be changed periodically. The 750 is a tried and true design that has been in production for years. I recently purchased a 99 Vulcan 800 Classic for the wife. The problem I am having is that on cold start it stalls as soon as soon as you put it in 1st gear and the bike starts moving. It usually takes several attempts at revving really high on the throttle to finally get it going so that it doesn't stall.
