Except sometimes it doesn’t work. Recently tried to get a replacement for an expired MetroCard that still had $5.50 in it. The agent put it in her machine, then told me that for [whatever system reason], the value couldn’t be transferred. She gave me a brand new card, but told me I had to mail in the old one to get the balance back. Fantastic.
