Jan 20, 2010. #1. I have a ford 601 and was using it to rake hay and thought it threw a rod. After taking the engine apart, I found out that the camshaft was broke by the timing gear. Also on the other end the gear that drives the hydraulic pump had 3 or 4 teeth that broke. Everything else on the engine was normal.I have the same carb problem with my 601 (661) Workmaster.
